The Difference Between Lashes in Japan and Canada

After working as a lash artist in both Japan and Canada, I’ve noticed some big differences in lash styles between the two.

In Japan, lash lifts became super popular after COVID. Around 80% of clients now go for lash lifts, and only about 20% still get extensions — that’s how big the lash lift boom is.

I think it’s because lash lifts are easier to maintain (you only need to come every 1–2 months), and the products have improved a lot, so the results look more natural and last longer.

Japanese beauty trends tend to focus on a clean, natural look — nothing too dramatic or heavy. That’s why lash lifts are still so popular. Extensions are slowly making a comeback, but even then, classic and natural styles are the most requested. Recently, there’s even a trend of combining lash lifts and extensions for a soft but enhanced look.

On the other hand, Canada has a much wider variety of styles and preferences.

While classic sets remain a go-to option, hybrid lashes—where classic and volume lashes are combined—are also growing in popularity.

In Japan, people often follow trends, even if the style may not necessarily suit them. But here in Canada, I’ve found that many clients prioritize what works best for their own features and lifestyle.

At Sakura Eyelash, we always start with a thorough consultation before every appointment. Together, we’ll decide on the best style, curl, and length for you—so you can relax and feel confident that your lashes will enhance your natural beauty.
